Where electrical installations do not comply with the minimum safety requirements of BS7671: 2018 (IET wiring regulations) a serious consideration should be given to replace the old wiring and accessories such as sockets, switches and light points etc.
The best way to decide whether the state of the current installation complies to the British standards is to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report carried out. This is report is often carried out before rewiring where there is concern over the condition of the installation.
